"Acceptance doesn't mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there's got to be a way through it."
Ø There are two ways out of a
problem: accept what’s happening, see the positive, and choose
a peaceful state of mind or fight against it, be miserable,
and struggle against the universe.
Ø Practicing acceptance prepares you
to live in this changing world, where you never know what’s going to happen
next. Acceptance is like protecting yourself with your own shield.
Ø Choose not to judge what happens to
you. Instead believe that everything happens for a reason and that better
things will always follow. That’s the beginning of true acceptance.
Ø One of the greatest sources of
unhappiness is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are.
Ø When you accept a negative emotion,
it tends to lose its destructive power. This is surprising and counter
intuitive to many people, but if you think about it for a while, you will see
the logic of this approach.
Ø You are changing. The universe
around you is changing. Just because something was right for you in the
past doesn’t mean it still is. This could be a relationship, a job, a
home, a habit, etc.
Ø The lifestyle you’ve been living no
longer fits. The specific people and routines you’ve known forever no
longer align with your values. So you cherish all the memories, but find
yourself letting go and moving on.
